Opportunity for Excellence Funds helps SVC programs upgrade lab equipment and technology to keep them cutting-edge and relevant to workforce and industry standards. Funds are also used to help students pursue required internships, research or professional development activities in and beyond the classroom or lab. One example is when students participate in an experience like Desert Odyssey, a two-week excursion to explore interconnections among landscapes, ecosystems and human experience with the Navajos in the Southwest. Access to this type of funding provides students with opportunities to expand their worldviews and apply classroom knowledge in tangible ways while improving their employability or university transfer application.
