Jerry Husted Nordic Tug Memorial Scholarship

Jerry Husted Nordic Tug Memorial Scholarship

Nordic Tug and the Basler Foundation, along with a group of Nordic Tug Owners established the Jerry Husted Nordic Tug Memorial Scholarship in memory of Jerry Husted, founder of Nordic Tugs. The fund was endowed with a gift of $50,000 from the Basler Foundation.

The scholarship is for full-time students enrolled in Skagit Valley College’s Marine Technology Program with a 2.75 or greater GPA. Priority consideration will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. The Jerry Husted Nordic Tug Memorial Scholarship Fund will promote greater involvement in the marine tech program and commemorate Husted’s contribution to the marine trades.

Jerry Husted founded Nordic Tugs which, under his leadership, built more than 900 boats from 26 to 54 feet. Husted remained with the company until three days before his 80th birthday, in 2012. Husted was known as a hands-on executive, having sea-trialed all but a handful of Nordic Tugs built during his tenure with the organization. Husted passed in 2024. His legacy lives on in the company he created and in the reputation it enjoys in the cruising tug community and marine industry.

Paul Johnson, Director, Nordic Tugs Board of Directors, believes the scholarship fund will play an important role in supporting students in  the marine trades and celebrate Husted’s memory.
